Had I remembered some albums were released this year, I would have included them in the original Top 10. Instead, however, I’m posting this addendum.
Included in this list are two more fantastic albums:
She & Him — Volume 3
Though Zooey Deschanel’s wispy, elfin voice is not for everyone, she and musical collaborator M Ward have teamed up yet again to create the perfect blend of sunny, California pop. Volume 3 continues where their previous works left off, blending quirky Deschanel originals with just the right mix of half-forgotten, decades-old gems, forming vibrant scenes of wistful romances and summer longings. If you’re not already a Deschanel fan this album probably won’t change much, but if you are, it’s a beautiful, fun addition.
Emmylou Harris & Rodney Crowell — Old Yellow Moon
Two alt-country legends team up to form a beautiful, rich album with touches of folk, bluegrass and country. This is ‘Americana’ at its greatest, and Harris and Crowell are two of the best in the field.
